Masculinity
In today’s world, traditional views on masculinity can sometimes hold men back. These views often focus on outdated ideals—strength, stoicism, and dominance—while undervaluing the softer, more receptive aspects of human experience.
However, everyone has both masculine and feminine energies. True masculinity involves recognising and balancing these energies within yourself. It’s not just about embodying traditional masculine traits but also embracing qualities typically associated with the feminine, like empathy, nurturing, and intuition.
My Experience with Masculine and Feminine Energies
For a long time, I believed that being masculine meant suppressing emotions and always being in control. This approach left little room for vulnerability and authentic connection.
A significant part of my journey involved dealing with insecurity and anxious attachment. I used to worry excessively about where my partner was and what they were doing. This anxiety stemmed from the need to control and the fear of not measuring up, often leading to strained relationships and emotional turmoil.
Through my journey, I’ve learned that true strength comes from balancing both masculine and feminine energies. Embracing emotions, showing vulnerability, and allowing yourself to be receptive are not weaknesses but integral parts of a balanced and authentic self. Addressing these insecurities and developing a healthier approach to relationships has been key to finding peace and connection.
How ‘Traditional’ Masculinity Can Hold You Back
Emotional Repression:
Avoiding vulnerability with close friends or partners.
Believing showing emotions is a weakness.
Struggling to express feelings honestly.
Limited Connection:
Difficulty forming deep relationships due to fear of judgment.
Avoiding meaningful conversations and connections.
Experiencing loneliness from not being authentic.
Imbalance of Energies:
Ignoring feminine qualities like intuition and empathy.
Struggling to balance masculine and feminine traits.
Feeling fragmented due to lack of self-integration.
What to Expect in Sessions
In our sessions, we’ll explore how traditional masculine ideals, like the belief that showing emotions is a weakness, have shaped your life. For instance, you might have been taught to hide your feelings, but we’ll work on recognising and embracing these emotions as a source of strength.
We’ll focus on practical ways to embody both masculine and feminine energies. For example, we’ll practice techniques to balance assertiveness with empathy. This might include role-playing scenarios where you assert your needs while also listening and responding with compassion.
You’ll also learn to hold space for the feminine qualities of intuition and receptivity without feeling the need to immediately solve problems. Instead of jumping in with solutions, we’ll explore how to simply be present and supportive. This involves practising active listening and validating others’ feelings, which strengthens your relationships and shows a deep level of understanding.
By integrating these approaches, you’ll find a more authentic and balanced way to engage with yourself and others. This process will help you move beyond outdated views and develop a more integrated, fulfilling self.
