Understanding Trauma
Trauma isn’t just about the event itself… it’s about how it changed you. It’s how it shaped your beliefs, impacted your safety, and altered your connection with others.
Trauma is something that lives inside you. It comes from experiences that leave lasting marks on your mind, body, and soul. It influences the way you see yourself and the world around you.
Big “T” Trauma vs. Little “t” Trauma
When people think of trauma, they often picture major events. “Big T” trauma like abuse, accidents, or the loss of a loved one. These experiences can shake your world and leave deep scars.
But there’s also “Little t” trauma. It can come from smaller, everyday events that still have a profound impact. It could be bullying, feeling neglected, or being isolated. These moments might not seem as big, but they add up over time and can affect your sense of self and how you connect with others.
Trauma isn’t about the size of the event… it’s about how it made you feel. These experiences stay with you, shaping the way you react, trust, and see yourself.
My Focus on Abandonment Wounds
I have a personal connection to abandonment wounds, which is why I focus on healing them. I was adopted at three months old, and I lost my mother to cancer at 18. These experiences left me with deep abandonment wounds, leading me into addiction as I tried to fill the void.
Abandonment is often hidden. You might not even realise how deeply it affects you, but it can show up as insecurity, fear of rejection, and trouble trusting others. It might feel like you’re never “enough.”
Healing from abandonment isn’t about moving on; it’s about facing the pain, understanding it, and learning from it. This is what I focus on in my work… helping you understand and integrate those wounds to build resilience and strength.
Healing Trauma: Understanding and Growing
Healing trauma, especially abandonment, is about understanding how it impacts you today. Not just looking at the past, but seeing how it shapes your present life. It can make you feel constantly on edge, emotionally numb, or afraid to get close to people.
In our sessions, we’ll explore how these wounds show up. Whether it’s from childhood abandonment, loss, or emotional rejection, we’ll work together to understand and heal those experiences.
What to Expect in Sessions
When we work together, we’ll take it one step at a time:
Identify the Wounds: We’ll uncover how your trauma shows up today—whether it’s insecurity, fear, or other patterns.
Talk to the Wounds: We’ll have honest conversations with the parts of you that feel hurt, building trust and understanding.
Integration and Growth: We’ll work to turn these wounds into sources of strength and resilience, not pain.
If you’re ready to understand your wounds and turn them into something empowering, I’m here to help. Let’s take this journey together.
